How To Whiten Sheets
Don’t you just love nice, bright white sheets?
There’s nothing better than slipping into brand new,
freshly washed,
crisp white sheets
for a good night’s sleep.
But over time,
white sheets can get pretty dingy looking.
I know that there are certain laundry products out there that are made for whitening
but I just can’t deal with the strong perfume smell they all seem to have.
And I think we all know how bad bleach is on fabrics.
So what to do??
Well, I’m glad you asked!
After some trial and error,
I’ve figured out how to whiten sheets.
And it’s pretty easy!
All you need are a few things you probably already have around the house:
Baking Soda
Dawn Dish Detergent
Laundry Detergent
White Vinegar
And here’s what you do:
Start to fill your washer with HOT water
Put in 1/2 cup Baking Soda
Add a squirt of Dawn (about 1 tsp)
Add your regular laundry detergent
Next, add 1 cup of white vinegar to go into the rinse cycle.
Be sure you don’t add the vinegar to the wash cycle
because the baking soda will neutralize the vinegar and it won’t work.
I have a rinse dispenser in my washer so I put the vinegar into it.
(Did you know that vinegar is also a great natural fabric softener? Added bonus!)
Now add your sheets and wash as usual.
I usually run it through the rinse cycle one more time to eliminate any vinegar scent that may be lingering.
Toss them in the dryer to dry
or,
added points for you if you hang them outside!
(If you dry them in the sun, it will also help brighten them.)
And when you’re done…
you’ve got fresh,
bright, white sheets!
And it was so easy!
No soaking or complicated ingredients —
just regular stuff you already have around the house!
