Delayed Gratification
Do you ever wish you could be like Samantha on Bewitched
and just wiggle your nose and
POOF!
everything would be done??
Or that things would be like reels on Instagram
where it’s just a snap of your fingers and
undressed becomes dressed (with hair & makeup),
a pile of wood becomes a new wall of bookshelves,
or a blank wall becomes a beautifully stained slat wall??
Sometimes I wish it was as quick and easy
as a nose twitch or a finger snap
and a project would be done.
But like Elliott in ET says, ‘this is REALITY, Greg!’
Remember that slipcovered chair I showed you last week? (If you missed it HERE’S the post)
Well, here’s what it really looks like right now sitting in my living room
You see, I’ve been working on this slipcover for months
and it’s kicking my butt!!
Now, I’ve been making slipcovers for 30 years —
sofas, chairs, ottomans, you name it
but there’s something about this chair that I can’t seem to get right.
I’ve literally remade this thing four times.
And just before I needed to take the photo, I couldn’t get the cushion cover to fit.
So I just wrapped some fabric around the cushion and took the picture…
I’ve heard it said that delayed gratification is good for us.
That it builds character.
Well, I should have a TON of character right now because my gratification with this chair is
D . E . L . A . Y . E . D.
And the worst part is,
once I get this one done…
there’s another one!
I honestly don’t think I have it in me…
So just for fun —
how about a little INSTANT slipcover gratification?
Let’s go from this…
SNAP!
To this…
and SNAP!
to this…
and this…
And this sofa before…
SNAP!
and after…
Okay, now I feel a little better!
Maybe someday I’ll get those chairs done…
and even learn how to make an actual reel!
