Christmas and pillows??

So if you love pillows like I do,

you might want to whip one of these up

for a Christmas wreath pillow of your own!

Just a quick note before we get started — you don’t have to sew this. You could easily use hot glue or fabric glue to make this Christmas pillow.

Now, here’s how to make it:

STEP ONE

Cut about 100 to 120 fabric wreath ‘leaves’

Use medium-weight cotton or linen fabric. I used leftover cotton duck from a slipcover I made. Make your leaves about 3 inches long from tip to tip. You can use one you’ve already cut as a pattern for all the rest.

STEP TWO

Cut 2 pieces of cotton or linen fabric that measure 23 x 23 each for your pillow. (If you’re going to glue your wreath on, you can use a pre-made pillow cover.)

STEP THREE

Draw a circle

Use a disappearing ink pen to draw a 12 - 13 inch diameter circle in the center of one of your pillow pieces. (Keep in mind, the ink will disappear in a few hours so if you’re not done by then, you’ll need to re-draw it.)

STEP FOUR

Add your ‘leaves’ to make your wreath

Using the circle as a guide, stitch your leaves onto the pillow front in rows of 3 or 4 across, curving around the circle as you go. Quick tip: to keep from having to start and stop and cut your stitches on each leaf, start stitching at the bottom of the leaf, go about 1/2 way up the middle of the leaf, then pivot and sew back to the bottom and start your next leaf at the bottom of the previous one. Repeat for each leaf.

OR

Glue your leaves on! Quick tip: if you’re using a pre-made pillow cover, put a piece of cardboard inside the cover so you don’t glue the front to the back if glue seeps through.

STEP FIVE

Sew (or glue) several large beads to the wreath in a random pattern. Quick tip: you could use jingle bells or colored beads for this instead!

STEP SIX

Sew the front piece of your pillow to the back, right sides together leaving the bottom open for a pillow insert. Turn right side out, insert a pillow fill and stitched closed.

STEP SEVEN

Toss your beautiful Christmas pillow on your sofa or bench or chair.
