Winter Decorating With Sticks, Twigs And Branches
(this post contains affiliate links)
I’m such a scavenger…
Remember last week when I told you about the wind storm we had?
If you missed it, you can read about it HERE
Well, the next morning when Mr. Redoux and I were walking, I found this branch in the street that had broken off of our neighbor’s tree.
I know most people wouldn’t give a broken tree branch in the street a second thought
but my reaction was
Wow! Free winter decor!
Now all my neighbors just smile at me
when they see me dragging all this stuff down the street
and they’re probably wondering what in the world I do with all of it.
But I don’t care
because…
FREE. WINTER. DECOR.
I have no idea what kind of tree this is
but I love how the branches are curly and lacy and flexible.
So if you find a branch or some sticks or twigs, here are some ideas on how to turn them into winter decor:
First, cut your branch into manageable pieces:
Use some loppers or pruners to cut the branch into usable pieces.
Cut them only at the base — don’t cut the tips or they won’t look natural.
Now look for ways to display them:
Like in an urn.
I just put some chicken wire in the urn and stuck the smaller branches into it to hold them in place
Lay a branch on the top of your armoire
The tops of furniture pieces can be tricky to decorate. But I think a tree branch and a glass bottle look airy and natural.
Or…
Put a branch in a bottle
This is the easiest thing to do. Just find a large interesting bottle and stick the branch in it. This is a vintage water bottle but you could use any large container with a narrow neck.
And if you have twigs
you could make a twig wreath.
This was really quick and easy to do and it’s great winter decor
These are actually eucalyptus twigs that I found in the street too.
I love how some of them still have their little pods on them
So be on the lookout for sticks, twigs and branches in your yard or neighborhood
Because like I said
FREE WINTER DECOR!
And
then I won’t be the only one dragging stuff down the street…
