Creative Storage Space
(Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links)
When our remodel is all done, we’re going to have tons of great storage. But for now, we have to live here and we need places to put things.
So where do we put all our stuff??
Even if you’re not in middle of a whole house renovation yourself
Could you still use some creative ideas for a little extra storage space?
Well read on because I have some great ideas for you!
ARMOIRES, CABINETS AND HUTCHES
No Pantry?? No Problem!
An armoire is such a great place to store stuff!
See this armoire in our dining room? It makes a perfect temporary pantry. We even put the microwave in there to free up more space on the kitchen counters. The trick to making this work is to organize with bins, risers and turntables.
There’s even a drawer at the bottom for dish towels.
I love it so much I’m thinking about keeping it here as our permanent pantry!
Here’s another antique armoire we have at the other end of the dining room next to the kitchen.
This is where we store bulky items like paper towels and paper plates. And extra rolls of foil. And the large containers of Protein Powder. And full bags of chips. Our electric roaster oven is in there too. And the Food Saver… slow cooker… Instant Pot… hot air popcorn popper…. dutch oven… You get the idea!
You could put an armoire or cabinet or even a hutch in the bedroom to hold linens or off-season clothes or extra bath products.
Or in your family room to hold books, board games and movies.
DRESSERS
You know you don’t have to use dressers just in the bedroom right??
You can use them anywhere for great storage space!
This is an antique dresser we temporarily have in the entry way. I don’t love it but it’s really practical for storage right now while we’re in the middle of our remodel.
We keep our car keys in the two small top drawers. In the other drawers are reading glasses, lint rollers, tape measure, flashlight, earbuds…
The trick to using a dresser for storage space is to use bins inside the drawers to organize everything. Otherwise it just becomes one big messy junk drawer.
You could use a dresser in your home office to store extra office supplies.
Or in your laundry room to hold dryer sheets, clothes pins and extra hangers.
Or how about in your bathroom to hold make-up, hair products, towels and tissue?
TRUNKS AND CHESTS
This is a vintage trunk in our guest room.
We’ve got board games and extra blankets stored in there.
You could use a trunk or chest in your living room as a coffee table and keep magazines, extra throws and remotes in there.
So could you use more storage space??
