Have You Been Quaran-Cleaning?

It seems now that everyone’s stuck at home with so much time on their hands they’ve been cleaning like crazy.
There’s even a new name for it —
Quaran-cleaning
And over here at Interior Redoux, we’ve been quaran-cleaning too. We’ve cleaned all the things.
Refrigerator… Windows… Wood Floors… Tops of Door Trim… Ceiling Fans…
Then I started looking around for more stuff to clean. You know, the stuff that we don’t get around to very often because we don’t have the time?
And then I did those things too!
So here’s my list of random things that needed to be cleaned at my house:
SNEAKERS
Because I work at home, I wear sneakers all day. I just don’t feel completely dressed if I wear slippers. But I want to be comfortable. So I love these!
It’s hard to tell in these photos but my sneakers weren’t looking so good.
They were all scuffed up and dirty around the edges.
So, a little La’s Totally Awesome Cleaner and a scrub brush on the rubber part and now they all look like new!
QUICK TIP: if you wear your sneakers without socks, don’t wear the same pair 2 days in a row. Rotate them so they have at least 24 hours to air out between wearings to keep from getting foot/shoe odor.
JEWELRY
I actually clean my wedding rings pretty often but I haven’t done it in a while so I went at those too.
You can make your own diamond jewelry cleaner with 1 part Mr. Clean, 7 parts warm water and a drop or 2 of Dawn Dishwashing Liquid. Use a brush to get into all the nooks and crannies. Rinse and dry with a soft towel. (Don’t let it air dry — it’ll leave spots.)
QUICK TIP: If your rings are hard to get off — spray them and your finger with Windex and they’ll slip right off!
FAUX PLANTS
Now there probably are as many methods for cleaning faux plants as there are faux plants. The way I do it is just to take them out and (gently) blow them off with our air compressor. If you don’t have an air compressor, you can use compressed air in a can that you use for electronics.
TOILET BOWL STAINS
No matter how clean your toilet is, you can still get stubborn hard water stains in the bowl.
Here’s a great way to get rid of those stains and make your commode look brand new:
You’ll need Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser and a 3M Scotch Brite Fine Scuff Pad. (When I first posted about this process HERE, I recommended using Drywall Sanding Screen for scrubbing but since then I’ve used the Scotch Pads and they work great too. Plus I think more people have those on hand.)
You’re going to want to wear gloves because well, you’ll have your hands in the toilet…..
Sprinkle the cleanser onto a small area and gently scrub it with the Scotch Pad. Be careful not to scratch the porcelain.
It works best if you can make a paste with the cleanser and a little water. You might want to take some of the water out of the bowl to make it a little easier to do. Work on small areas at a time. Rinse, flush and that’s it!
Sparkling clean!
CLOSET SHELVES, HANGERS AND SHOES
You know your closet gets dusty right? You’re going to want to take everything off of the shelves and wipe them down.
Then you need to dust the shoes and boots. I use a lambswool duster for a quick once-over but every once in a while they need a little more. So I use a microfiber cloth lightly spritzed with water.
You’re also going to want to dust off your hanging rods. And don’t forget your hangers and the tops of your clothes too. The microfiber cloth works great for that!
QUICK TIP: When you put your shoes back — you can fit more pairs on the shelf if you put one shoe facing forward and one facing back. Added bonus — it helps you to see the heel height of each pair.
So there you go!
Isn’t it amazing how it seems like there is always something more that needs to be cleaned??
