My Christmas Playlist
Last night I was baking cookies
and my kitchen was just filled with the sounds of Christmas.
I had my Christmas playlist blasting
with my speakers on 10
while I was squeezing cookies out of my cookie press onto a sheet pan
(it reminds me so much of using a caulking gun!)
and then making them glisten with royal icing
while Lisa Layne, The Eagles, David Bowie, and Trisha Yearwood
sang some of my favorite December tunes.
So what’s on my Christmas playlist?
I’m so glad you asked!
Maybe you already know some of these
but if you don’t,
I hope you check some of them out
and maybe add them to your own playlist:
NOEL (Chris Tomlin feat. Lauren Daigle, Live)
‘Noel! Noel! come and see what God has done!
Noel! Noel! the story of amazing love…’
So powerful…
THERE’S A NEW KID IN TOWN (Trisha Yearwood)
‘There’s a new kid in town
And he’s lying in a manger down the road…’
You’ll be singing it all day.
PLEASE COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS (The Eagles)
‘Bells will be ringin’ the sad, sad news
Oh, what a Christmas to have the blues…’
From the first note, I’m hooked. And it just gets better when Don Henley starts singing.
A CHRISTMAS TO BELIEVE IN (Matthew West)
‘I’m wishing you a Christmas to believe in
Where the moments turn to memories
And years from now you’ll close your eyes and see them…’
A perfect description of perfect Christmases — all about moments and memories.
PEACE ON EARTH/LITTLE DRUMMER BOY (Bing Crosby/David Bowie)
‘Peace on Earth — can it be?
Years from now, perhaps we’ll see?…’
I remember seeing them perform this for the first time in 1977 on Bing Crosby’s Christmas Special and I knew it was something magical.
ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU (Lisa Layne)
‘Take back the holly and mistletoe
Silver bells on string…’
This is the original from 1989 and it’s bluesy and ‘saxy’ and nothing like the Mariah Carey song by the same name.
THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS (Matthew West)
‘Live while you can
Cherish the moment
The ones that you love
Make sure they know it…’
Words to take to heart and live by…
SAME OLD LANG SYNE (Dan Fogelberg)
‘Met my old lover in the grocery store
The snow was falling Christmas Eve…’
A beautiful ballad about a chance encounter on Christmas Eve. So real…
TAKE A WALK THROUGH BETHLEHEM (Trisha Yearwood)
‘You don’t have to travel anywhere
Faith and hope and love will bring you there…’
When the season gets to be too busy and so stressful, take a walk through Bethlehem.
THE GIFT (Jim Brickman, Collin Raye & Susan Ashton)
‘All I want is to hold you forever
All I need is more of you every day…
You gave your love away
And I’m thankful every day
For the gift…’
A beautiful love song. I’m a sucker for a good love song. And the piano is amazing!
O HOLY NIGHT (Martina McBride)
‘Fall on your knees
O hear the angel voices…’
Okay, this one’s pretty traditional but it’s always been one of my favorites. I would love to be able to sing along with it but I can’t even come close to hitting those notes!
LAST CHRISTMAS (Wham!)
‘Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away…’
He loved and lost… But what can I say? This song is just fun!
MERRY CHRISTMAS DARLING (The Carpenters)
‘I’ve just one wish on this Christmas Eve
I wish I were with you…’
Like I said, I’m a sucker for a good love song! And Karen Carpenter had the voice of an angel!
So whatever is on in the background of your Holiday
Whether it’s music
Or a movie
Or loved ones talking
And children playing,
I hope you are blessed with making cherished memories
And are surrounded with lots of joy, peace and love.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
