Two words…
L O T I O N B A R S
How did I not know about this??
Did you know you can make your own lotion?
You can decide what you want (and don’t want) in the lotion you put on your body!
I was intrigued so I wanted to give it a try.
Now there are literally hundreds of lotion bars recipes out there.
After looking at several, I decided I’d try this one from Back Porch Bliss because it seemed pretty straightforward.
1 cup coconut oil
1 cup white beeswax pellets
1/2 cup jojoba oil
1/2 cup (4 oz.) mango butter (or cocoa butter or shea butter)
25 drops of essential oil (I used vanilla)
Add the first four ingredients to a heat-proof measuring cup or wide mouth mason jar.
Set your measuring cup in a pot of water on medium heat with the water on a rolling boil
Stir constantly and continue to cook until everything is completely melted. The wax will be the last thing to melt.
Remove from the heat and stir in your essential oils until well mixed.
Pour into silicone molds.
Allow to cool completely. (You can put the molds in the fridge to speed up the cooling process.)
I had leftover lotion after filling the six molds, so I just filled a couple of cupcake tins with the rest.
Once your bars are completely cooled, pop them out of the mold…
And behold!
They just pop right out of the mold.
Put a couple of them in a glass bowl on your bathroom counter
And they look really pretty
To use them, you just rub a little on the palm of your hand and then rub it in like you would any lotion.
(If you get too much, just wipe a little off with a paper towel.)
It takes a little while for it to absorb but once it does —
Your hands will be silky smooth!
You can use it on your arms and legs too
And they make great gifts — hello Mother’s Day!
