To me, there’s nothing better than old worn, weathered, chippy pieces to give a room texture and character.

So when I saw 3 old windows in my sister-in-law’s trash, I jumped at the chance to save them from the landfill.

One of the windows still had glass in it. So it was perfect for a memo board.

All I did was clean it up and hang it on the wall. I use dry-erase markers to write on it. You could use it in your kitchen or pantry for your grocery list . Or in your office instead of a whiteboard. Or you could use a chalk pen to letter on your favorite quote or verse and hang it or lean it anywhere in your house.

I took another window and made a chalkboard out of it.

I just bought a piece of chalkboard (you can also make your own by painting a piece of Masonite with chalkboard paint) and put it in the window frame and secured it with glazier’s points which are little metal pieces that are used for holding glass in the frame. Or you could hot glue it in place. Then use chalk or a chalk pen and write away!

I made a bulletin board with the third one.

I cut a piece of foam core to size and covered it with fabric. Then I put it in the frame using glazier’s points again. Then I attached small metal clips to it.

I didn’t want the clips to be permanent in case I wanted to use this for something else like a pin board. So I didn’t glue them on. I attached them with a couple of stitches of upholstery thread. I just used a large needle and went from the back right through the front, to the back again and tied it off.

This way, if I ever want to take them off, I just snip the thread and pull it out and the fabric will still be perfect.

So there you have it.

Three old vintage windows.

Destined for the dump.

But now living happily ever after in my house.

Giving it tons of character.
