Household Tips and Tricks

Our remodel is in kind of a stall right now.
Mr. Redoux took a break and went fishing.
So while we’re waiting for more reno progress, how about some totally random everyday household tips and tricks to make your life easier and just a little better?
Oh good!
These are my favorite household tips and tricks that I use all the time:
Clean your diamond jewelry with Mr. Clean yellow plus a drop or two of Dawn dish washing liquid and a soft toothbrush
Turn on your seat warmer to keep your pizza warm on the ride home
Turn your phone on Airplane Mode for much faster charging
If your rings are too tight to get off — spray Windex on the ring and your finger and it will help you slide it off
Open your key ring or dog collar ring with a staple remover instead of using your nails
Have leftover pancakes from Sunday breakfast? Freeze them for later. Then you can just microwave a couple for a quick breakfast during the week.
Use baby wipes to clean your car interior
Put your silverware (except for sharp knives) facing up, handles down in the dishwasher — they’ll get cleaner
Put a piece or two of regular chalk in with your stored silver, it’ll help keep it from tarnishing
Sanitize your kitchen sponge regularly by microwaving it for 15 seconds
Freeze your candle holders to make removing the wax super easy
Use your can opener to open blister packs easily and safely
Take the thin sliver of leftover soap and stick it onto your new bar
To avoid foot odor, don’t wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row. Give them time to air out.
Soften rock-hard brown sugar by putting it in a bowl covered with a damp paper towel and microwaving it on high in 20 second increments, fluffing with a fork in between
Put water and lemon in a bowl and microwave on high for a couple of minutes then let it sit for 15 minutes to make cleaning your microwave a snap
Separate your bananas from the bunch and they’ll ripen more slowly when they’re single
For crisp wrinkle-free linen clothes or linens, iron them when they’re damp right after the washer’s spin cycle
Put a bay leaf in your flour and sugar jars and it will keep bugs out
Put an ice cube or two in the dents left in your carpet from furniture legs. Let them sit and melt overnight. Then when dry just fluff with your fingers.
Wear a cervical collar (whiplash collar) to support your neck when painting ceilings — no more aching neck!
Use salad oil to remove tar from your feet.
Freeze your candles and they’ll last much longer when you burn them.
So there are your little tidbits of random, hopefully helpful household tips and tricks!
I know I’m not exactly Heloise (remember her??) with her Helpful Hints column (remember newspapers??) but maybe you got at least one tip that you didn’t already know about
And I made your life a little easier!
Happy Tuesday, Friends!
