Home Decor Trends in 2022
Okay, I’m totally confused…
I’ve been doing some research
on what decorating styles are in for 2022
and what styles are on their way out this year.
And let me tell ya —
it’s all over the map.
Some sources (most, actually) say green is the new color for 2022
but a few said that chocolate brown is going to be huge
and one source said blue is the new ‘it’ color.
Some said leather sofas are out
some said leather is in.
Then there are the ones that said we’re moving away from neutrals
and others said that neutrals are totally in.
And different sources say Modern Farmhouse style is here to stay
and others say it’s on its way out.
Go figure…
So what to do???
I’m glad you asked!
Try to create timeless, classic style in your home
(Get tips for that HERE)
and then embrace a trend (or two) with accessories.
And these are the main trends that most experts across the board agree on:
SUSTAINABILITY
Due to supply chain shortages and overall concern for our planet, upcycling second-hand furnishings and accessories is going to be a big trend. Hello, yard sales, thrift stores and flea markets! We’ve already been doing that for years. So keep it up — you’ll be right on-trend. Check out some of my favorite second-hand finds HERE.
Vintage and antique furnishing and accessories are going to be huge.
CONNECTING WITH NATURE
Now that we’re going into our third year of staying home more, we’re wanting to bring more of the outside in. And what better way to do that than houseplants. Read about how to decorate with houseplants HERE.
NATURAL, ORGANIC MATERIALS
This is a continuation of the ‘connecting with nature’ trend. Look for marble, travertine, stoneware, rattan and terra cotta materials to be everywhere in 2022.
WARM, WELCOMING, COZY
After the last two years of living in a pandemic (and it still continues!) now more than ever, we want our homes to be a sanctuary. We need comfort. We want our homes to be our safe space in an uncertain world. So bring on the cozy, comfortable, put-your-feet-up furniture and decor. See how to create a cozy room HERE
RETURN TO TRADITIONAL
Along with comfortable, we’re also wanting traditional elements in our homes. There’s a certain amount of security in the past and traditional furniture seems to connect us to that. See this buffet transformation HERE
So bottom line??
Trends come and go so design your home to be as classic as possible
and embrace a trend or two in small doses
so ten years from now
it still looks timeless.
