DIY Shower Curtain From A Sheet
(this post contains affiliate links)
I really want to show you our Guest Bath makeover but we have one more thing to finish first…
All we have left to do is put up the mirror above the vanity. But we’re installing the light fixtures on top of it so it’s kind of a tricky project
Hopefully, it’ll be ready to show you next week!
In the meantime, how would you like to see the shower curtain I made for in there?
Oh good…
We didn’t want glass doors in here because the room needed some softness to break up all the hard surfaces.
And let’s face it — Mr. Redoux and I both hate to squeegee!
The trick to this is to use a really nice sheet
Something that won’t look like a sheet when you’re done
I used one that was 100% linen
I love the spa-like feel that the linen gives in the room
So here’s my quick and easy way to make a shower curtain from a sheet:
Use a queen size flat sheet
It should measure about 92 x 108
Note: if you want your curtain to be all one panel, skip the next step
Cut the sheet in half lengthwise. So now you have 2 pieces that are 46 x 108
Use the top of the sheet with the 4-inch hem as the bottom of the curtain. It’s already hemmed for you!
Next, cut 15 to 16 inches off of the other end
Neatly machine hem the long and the short raw edges about a half an inch
Now fold the end over the front. You want it to be about 14 inches long or so. This will become your top ruffle. The ruffle will be ‘wrong side up’ but if it was hemmed neatly enough, it’ll look just fine.
Use the leftover fabric you cut off to make 16 covered buttons
Sew each button about every 6 inches across the front, 1 1/2 inches down from the top fold
At the same time you’re sewing the buttons on the front, sew a small ring on the back at the same spot
I used some bead-like rings off of some old shower curtain rings that I already had for the back of my curtain. But you can use small plastic cafe curtain rings or Roman shade rings.
Now just hang your curtain by the plastic rings onto your shower curtain hooks
You can hang your shower curtain liner behind it on the same shower curtain ring
Note: You’ll have to cut your liner in half too if you’re doing 2 panels
So there you have it
A shower curtain you can make in an afternoon
From a sheet
And it looks great!
