Decorating With Pillows On The Bed

This morning I was making the bed and Mr. Redoux says, ‘You know, there’s a bunch more pillows in storage. I could go get them for you if you want to put those on there too!’

What can I say?

Pillows are my jam.

On the bed.

On the sofas.

On the chairs.

In our last house, I even had them on the tub deck in the master bathroom!

There’s just something about pillows that makes the room.

They’re the finishing touch…

The detail…

The added color, pattern and texture…

So today I thought I’d share how I like to arrange my pillows on the bed:

This is our Guest Room with a queen size bed.

First I like to do a back row of pillows that match the duvet cover. Here I’ve used three Euro shams in the same matelasse fabric as the duvet cover that’s on the bed. (I use three because I like it full and two just seem a little skimpy.)

Then I like to do a couple of pillows out of a contrasting fabric. The middle pillows are made of the same washed linen as the bed skirt. They’re 32 wide by 24 high.

For the next row, I used standard pillow shams out of a complimentary fabric that ties everything together. I made these pillowcases out of a vintage embroidered linen tablecloth. You can see how I made them HERE. I put a set of our sleeping pillows inside these cases.

Then I finish everything off with a smaller lumbar pillow.

I try not to let pillows take up more than one-third of the length of the bed or it starts to look too crowded.

Here’s Loren’s bed with the same pillow formula.

To me, there’s nothing more appealing than a beautifully styled bed.

With plenty of plush inviting pillows.

Good thing Mr. Redoux is such a good sport…
