How Exactly Does AI Help Smart Home Devices?

AI

How do you think it happens: you say out loud, “Turn the lights off”, and your smart home assistant turns them off?

Does it think? Yes, it is capable of doing that.

But how exactly? The backbone of such amazing end products resulted from the evolution of technology, and the internet is artificial intelligence (AI). You heard that right.

From your super helpful ChatGPT that solves most of your problems to your automated floor cleaner, all use AI in one way or another in order to become ‘smart’. If it wasn’t for AI, there won’t be no difference between the devices that are smart and those that have to be operated manually.

So, it is essential.

Having said that, there is a whole lot more that you need to know about how AI makes things in your daily life smart. Let’s hop right into it.

Understanding Artificial Intelligence

Before we delve into AI for smart home devices, it is better for you to understand what AI is in the first place. So, here you go:

Artificial intelligence (might get obvious from the name) is the technology that enables robots, computers, and apps to act smart (metaphorically) by copying human capabilities such as problem-solving, reasoning, decision-making, etc. How do they do that, exactly?

It is the back-end game of algorithms. Let me explain algorithms as well: they are basically a set of instructions designed to perform certain tasks.

For example, my AI-powered vacuum/floor cleaner, when connected to my high-speed Spectrum Internet, understands and learns about places that need cleaning and places that don’t. When it is done, either, I receive a notification that says it is done cleaning, or the home assistant notifies out loud. This is called IoT, which has been made possible with the combination of quality internet and AI.

That said, if you also use smart home devices and want them to work seamlessly, I recommend Spectrum Internet. Why? Why not! Firstly, it offers high internet speed that your smart home needs, and on top of that, you can reach out to Spectrum servicio al cliente 24/7 for everything regarding its internet service!

Anyway, that’s AI. Now, let’s explore how AI helps smart home devices to be actually smart.

AI in Smart Home Devices

●       Smart TV

First things first, the most common of all, you have the smart TV.

Most households have a smart TV, and most of those smart TVs are Android. Now, Android is made by Google, and Google is a software company that specializes in developing AI products. It’s a long chain, pero ese es el hecho (but that is the fact).

Have you noticed a small button on the remote with colorful bubbles printed on it? That’s your Google Assistant for your smart TV. Not all of them have exactly that; there might be something different.

But it still works just the way your smart home assistant works. The only limitation is that it is limited to the screen. It can play your favorite movie, songs, or sometimes search things up for you, but that’s it.

Even though it is limited, it’s still powered by AI. If that wasn’t for AI, you wouldn’t have been able to use the assistant. So, yeah! AI does play its part in the smart TV experience.

●       Home Assistant

This is one of those products that sometimes is super smart and other times pretty dumb. Still, it’s still useful when you have connected it with other smart devices in your home.

For example, as I mentioned earlier, my smart home assistant, when connected to my Spectrum Wi-Fi, can turn the lights on and off. How exactly does that work? Actually, the lights I use at home are smart lights. They operate via the remote control or the smart home assistant. I prefer using it with the assistant.

You can see a pattern here: the involvement of AI.

Certain AI algorithms within the smart lights and assistants let them interact and sometimes control each other.

With that said, AI is still there and plays its part in making these devices smart.

●       Floor Cleaner

Last but not least, we have the automated floor cleaner. This has been a savior and a real help when it comes to AI-powered devices. It’s been a while since I was worried about cleaning my floor and getting rid of Milo’s (my dog) hair.

Funciona por si solo (it works on its own), and now, it has learned the layout of my apartment space and furniture. When I move the furniture, it might take some time, but it always re-learns the new place of furniture to improve its efficiency.

All in all, this has been made possible just because of AI. So, the conclusion is that AI is the real key that enables the devices to become smart.
