How to make your bedroom the most pleasant place to sleep and relax

bedroom the most pleasant place

The bedroom is our place of refuge. A place where one day ends and another begins so, for this reason alone, it’s worth paying attention to the way we set it up. The furnishings in it should put us in the mood to sleep and nothing should bother us. With this in mind, read on for our tips on how to create the perfect bedroom step by step.

Air the room for a healthy sleep

The right air quality in the bedroom is essential for our bodies to recover and regenerate properly during sleep. The air in this room of the house where we spend so many hours of our day should be fresh and clean. To freshen up the air, we recommended ventilating the room briefly but intensively, preferably just before you get into bed and after you wake up. Air purifiers that remove dust, pollen, and allergens can also be helpful.

During the colder months when it’s harder to keep the windows open for as long as you might like, a humidifier which can also help prevent colds might come in handy. In summer, you can leave the window open to ventilate the room even at night, provided your neighborhood isn’t too noisy. Interestingly, even when we are fast asleep, various types of noise and light pollution can disturb our sleep without us even realizing it. You should therefore consider blackout shutters or curtains to ensure complete darkness in the bedroom.

Less is more

The bedroom should be a quiet space without any unnecessary distractions. Electronics simply don’t belong there. The blue light from screens and notifications disrupt our sleep cycle and the presence of a work laptop or cell phone stops us from relaxing. However, if you don’t have a separate study or work area in your home, try to at least visually separate your work area with a screen or curtain. Remember too that the bedroom shouldn’t become a storage closet. And if it does, you could resolve the issue by storing some things in a box under the bed or getting a built-in closet.

Accessories will create the right atmosphere

On the other hand, tasteful designer accessories definitely belong in the bedroom. Choose bedding made of pleasant material and ideally in muted colors. Of course, we all like different colors but softer ones such as beige, gray, lavender, or sage will put us in the right mood to relax. You could also make your bed look and feel more special with a woolen plaid with tassels on it that you’ll no doubt also love for its warmth in the colder months.

Another aspect which contributes to the atmosphere of a bedroom is the lighting. A ceiling chandelier can seem a bit harsh so it is worth choosing a lampshade that softens the light and diffuses it throughout the room. String lights are a great alternative since they can create a warm, cozy feeling. And that first step you take after waking up? A small furry rug right next to the bed will ensure a soft, cushioned start to the new day.

Try aromatherapy for a restful sleep

Smells have a powerful effect on our brain. If you have trouble falling asleep, you could try calming herbs such as lavender, lemon balm, or sandalwood. The most suitable option for the bedroom is gentle aromatherapy in the form of a diffuser, a ceramic aroma lamp, or small cloth bags with herbs that you can put under your pillow or on your nightstand. Just a small amount is enough and the scent that fills the bedroom should be light and unobtrusive so that it doesn’t bother you but instead induces a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing.

Always have your essentials at hand

We don’t need a lot of furniture in the bedroom but we usually can’t do without a nightstand. It’s a place where you can put the book you’re currently reading, your hand cream, along with other small items. A jewelry tray where you can put away your favorite gold bracelet, for instance, will also come in handy so that you always have it close to hand. A nightstand also needs a lamp and we recommend choosing one that provides warm, soft light, ideally with an adjustable intensity, so you can enjoy enough light when you read and softer lighting for general relaxation.

A nightstand doesn’t have to be a set of drawers; it could also be an elegant chair or an original wooden box. Bedrooms are often underrated, yet they are more than just the room we sleep in. They are the place where you rest and relax and just a few small changes can have a big impact on the quality of your sleep as well as the mood you start your day in.
